Dear Editor,
I joined Jaynie Seale live on Sky News on Sunday morning to explain why the $5000 allied health cap is not merely a budget measure.
DVA already creates so much friction that some veterans eventually give up seeking the treatment they need.
They do not stop suffering. Good clinicians simply lose the opportunity to help them.
As I told Sky News, this is a highly emotive issue and people will die.
The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide showed where barriers to care can lead. No minister can say they were not warned.
If fraud is identified, go after the fraudster. Do not punish the veteran.
I also explained to Jaynie why I created Veterans Count. It makes the size, local footprint and concerns of people connected to Navy, Army or Air Force visible electorate by electorate.
Politicians should not just thank veterans for their service. They should ask why DVA is making their lives harder than they need to be.
