Success has many fathers – victory belongs to the veteran community

Dear Editor,

The rush to claim credit for defeating the government’s $5000 veterans allied-health threshold misses why the campaign succeeded.

There was no central campaign, no single spokesman and no organisation able to switch the pressure off.

Some veterans worked quietly with ministers and officials. Others protested, petitioned, contacted MPs, spoke publicly or laid down their medals.

Parliamentarians then carried that pressure into Parliament.

Nobody outside government can honestly know which meeting, protest, letter or political calculation finally tipped the balance.

That is precisely the point.

Success has many fathers.

This victory belongs to the veteran community.
