Keogh’s House Privilege shield puts McAllister in Senate pickle

Dear Editor,

Veterans’ Affairs Minister Matt Keogh has refused to release DVA Question Time briefs about Labor’s $5000 allied-health policy, claiming they are protected because they were prepared for his use in the House.

But Senator Jenny McAllister represents Veterans’ Affairs in the Senate and has already answered detailed questions there about the same policy.

So what did DVA give her?

If she received the same briefs, Keogh’s House privilege argument becomes harder to sustain.

If she received different briefs, the Senate is entitled to ask where they are.

And if she received no briefs, what was she relying on?

Keogh’s refusal has created a briefing trail the Senate should now follow.
