DVA said 5 urgent Royal Commission reforms were complete when only 2 were

Dear Editor,

Defence and DVA told veterans that five urgent Royal Commission reforms dealing with access to personal records had been implemented.

An independent review has now found only two were fully implemented. Three were not.

That raises a simple question: who checked the departments’ claims before ministers repeated them publicly?

Royal Commission recommendations are not boxes to be ticked because enough activity has occurred.

“Implemented” should mean implemented.

If the work is unfinished, say so, finish it and then close the recommendation.

Veterans and families deserve progress reports they can trust.
