Repatriation still has a commission. Who guards the promise?

Australia still has a Repatriation Commission. The question is whether veterans can actually see it guarding the principle its name represents.

Albanese Labor’s abandoned $5000 veterans’ allied-health cap exposed the problem. Veterans could see the policy, the budget arithmetic and eventually the backflip. What they could not readily see was whether the Commission supported the proposal, opposed it, sought changes or had any practical power to challenge it.

Repatriation is more than a word left over from history.

If the Commission still carries the Repatriation name, veterans should be able to see it guarding the Repatriation promise.
