Arrangements are underway to transition responsibilities to Vice Chief of Defence Force Rear Admiral Mat Williams, who will serve as Acting Chief of Defence Force.
Air Marshal Davies said the resignation was for personal reasons and results from errors of judgement he made in the past, for which he was now taking responsibility.
“The errors of judgement were contrary to the values of the Defence Force,” Air Marshal Davies said.
“These matters revolved around an inappropriate relationship I had when in a position of unit command.
“I regret not disclosing this when I had the opportunity to do so.”
Air Marshal Davies said his focus was on his family at this time, and asked for privacy.
Air Marshal Davies was promoted to his current rank on appointment to Chief of Defence Force on 6 June 2024
New Zealand Defence Force has referred the matter to the Inspector-General of Defence.
