LAND 400 Ph3 risk assessment complete
The two-year Risk Mitigation Activity for the Australian Army’s future infantry fighting vehicle was concluded recently.

Under the Project LAND 400 Phase 3, the two contenders, Rheinmetall’s KF-41 LYNX and Hanwha’s Redback were put through their paces with a range of test serials including user evaluations conducted by soldiers who will be the future operators of the Army’s new infantry fighting vehicle capability.
The two-year Risk Mitigation Activity was designed to ensure that Defence is positioned well to critically evaluate both company’s final tender offers and has a clear understanding of the risks associated with delivering a first-class and fit-for-purpose capability to Army.
Valued at between $18.1 billion and $27.1 billion, the infantry fighting vehicle project represents the largest acquisition in the Australian Army’s history.
Defence has now commenced the final evaluation stage of the tender and a decision on the preferred tenderer will be presented to government for consideration next year.
Defence thanked Hanwha Defense Australia and Rheinmetall Defence Australia for their participation in the Risk Mitigation Activity.

You’d think, if they are very close in competition, that they would lean towards the Rheinmetal platform considering we are already running the Boxers. There has to be some kind of payoff in jobs/financials using an existing manufacturer?
I heard on the grapevine the favoured is the Redback. But by all accounts they are as good as one another. It would be silly not to go with the Lynx given 2 Cav uses the same brand meaning armour and infantry would be interoperable. And 2 Cav also needs an IFV for their Assault Troopers.

Perhaps we in Defence should learn to disregard the woke inspired rubbish churned out by ‘Our ABC’, their record of late has been appallingly dismal and there is nothing to suggest that an ill informed diatribe will be any better…Just suck it up and move forward for the sake of all that were involved in the assessments.
Regarding Land 400 – the pressure will be crippling for Dept of Defence decision makers – should we perhaps consider giving them pensions, as they will have to endure an ABC inspired Media inquiry into what they actually did, why they chose to kill off the competition, and offer lots of counselling them to compensate for the trauma of the blame game and finger pointing at the completion of the trials?
