Army vet does perfect Drop Bear gag on TV reporter

Veterinarian and Army Reservist Captain Garnett Hall pulled off the perfect Drop Bear gag on an innocent Scottish TV reporter on Kangaroo Island this week.

Captain Hall, a military and civilian veterinarian, is using his skills to good effect on Kangaroo Island as part of Operation Bushfire Assist.

Captain Hall has had a very busy week with lots of injured animals to tend to and featured in a more serious and official-Defence video last week where he explained how he and his soldiers were working well outside their normal military roles.

But this week, Captain Hall pulled off the classic Australian military prank on a visiting foreigner – getting Scottish TV reporter Debi Edward to swallow the ‘Drop Bear’ myth “hook, line and sinker”.

Dressed in ‘batman armour’ from head to toe, plus industrial-strength personal protective equipment, the reporter did her best to remain calm, “because I’ve been told he can sense if I’m worried”.

But, as her discomfort rises – fuelled by a perfectly delivered, “Oh shit, I thought he was going to get ya” – Captain Hall commands, “don’t move, I’ll get the dart gun”, before finally rescuing the damsel in obvious distress….
