Flight Camp to tempt potential female pilots held in WA

Fourteen young women attended an Air Force Flight Camp for Young Women this week – 9 to 12 April 2018 – at Royal Australian Air Force Base Pearce.

While at the Flight Camp, participants experienced a range of military aviation roles on offer with the Royal Australian Air Force.

The participants also took part in mentoring sessions with current-serving personnel, fitness testing, public speaking tasks and leadership activities.

The Australian Defence Force is keen to recruit more women.

Flight Camp is just one of several ‘experiential initiatives’ designed to give women aged between 16 and 24 years a try-before-you-buy look at the RAAF.

The primary objective of Flight Camp (and Tech Camp), is to provide a hands-on learning opportunity for young women to experience Air Force aviation, particularly pilot (and technical) .

The camp provides a week of positive, tailored work experiences to participants, promoting the Air Force as a positive employment option.

It includes opportunities to engage with current-serving women, and exposure to Air Force life, fitness standards, leadership and adventurous training.

The majority of participants indicate a willingness to join Air Force following their attendance at the camp (reference – Women in the ADF Report 2015/16).
