Australian Army ‘s battle management system goes Danish

Danish company Systematic’s SitaWare Headquarters has been selected for the first tranche of the Australian Army’s next-generation Battle Management System (BMS).

Signed in June, the contract forms part of the ambitious LAND 4140 Program to modernise the land command, control, communications and computing capability of the Australian Army.

Systematic’s SitaWare Headquarters will be rolled out to Army to support their critical command and control (BMS Critical C2) needs.

The partnership began in 2021 when the Australian Army trialed SitaWare Headquarters, which was first employed during Exercise Talisman Sabre.

It has since supported a range of other Army activities and multinational training events.

Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO of Systematic said the Australian Army identified a requirement for a secure and battle-proven system and, after five years of use with a consistently strong performance, the system has contributed to the Army’s ongoing consideration of its future battle-management capability.

SitaWare Headquarters is used by more than 50 nations worldwide, including all Five Eyes partners and it is the NATO standard for its land operations.

Partnering with Systematic will allow Australian forces to operate alongside key allies while maintaining sovereign control over their own data.

Systematic has 35 employees in Australia to provide local engineering, support and program-delivery capabilities across the country.

Mark Gainsford, Vice President for Business Development at Systematic Australia, said Army needs a warfighting system it could trust, operate, and deliver at speed as capability requirements evolve.

“The Australian Army knows that coalition operations are the foundation of modern warfare, particularly in a deteriorating strategic environment.

“Being able to fight in that context is essential.”
