Cadets from South Australia and Mildura – No 6 Wing, Australian Air Force Cadets – have just completed a range of residential promotion courses, and are now set to take on increased leadership responsibilities within their parent squadrons.

No 6 Wing conducted the 2018 Promotion Courses at RAAF Edinburgh from the end of December into January.
The Reviewing Officer for the end of course parade held at RAAF Edinburgh on Saturday 13 January was Group Captain Brendan ‘Buck’ Rogers, Chief of Staff of the Air Warfare Centre.
Of those seeking to be promoted to Cadet Under Officer, the Dux of the course was Cadet Flight-Sergeant Bianca Poppy from No 601 Squadron (Keswick Barracks).
CFSGT Poppy was Parade Commander for the 2018 Promotion Courses Parade.
Of those who underwent training and assessment to qualify for eligibility to be promoted to Cadet Warrant Officer, the Dux of the course was Cadet Sergeant Nathan Richmond from No 619 (City of Onkaparinga) Squadron (based at Seaford Secondary College).
CSGT Richmond had the privilege of being Banner Bearer for the parade.
Dux of the Senior NCO Course was Cadet Corporal Benjamin Dunk from No 613 Squadron (RAAF Edinburgh).
CCPL Dunk paraded as the Banner Warrant Officer.
Three Junior NCO Courses were conducted, for Leading Cadets seeking eligibility to be promoted to Cadet Corporal.
Dux of Course A was Leading Cadet Gurtej Sohal from No 601 Squadron (Keswick Barracks).
Dux of Course B was Leading Cadet Joshua Dsa, and Dux of Course C was Leading Cadet Renee Roberts, both from No 609 Squadron (Warradale Barracks).

Course Commander’s Encouragement Awards were presented to Cadet Corporal Andrew O’Brien from 601 Squadron (SNCO Course), Leading Cadet Bailey Edginton from 601 Squadron (JNCO-A), Leading Cadet Kimberley Wyatt-Read from 602 Squadron (JNCO-B) and Leading Cadet Stephen Davis from 619 Squadron (JNCO-C).
These full-time, intensive leadership training courses give Cadets skills in leadership and decision-making, initiative, self-discipline, time-management, public speaking, management and administration, and operational planning.
Flying Officer (AAFC) Paul Rosenzweig, 6 Wing Public Affairs & Communication Officer, said these graduates will now return to their parent squadrons to advance in rank and take up specific appointments.
“There is no doubt we will hear more of them in a few years’ time when they take up leadership roles in Defence or in the community,” he said.
