In a heartfelt ceremony at Fleet Base East, Garden Island, Sydney, today, he handed the reins to Rear Admiral Jonathan Mead.
“I won’t say I’m happy to leave. But I can say I feel immeasurably privileged to have been part of the fleet over the past couple of years”, an emotional Rear Admiral Mayer said in his farewell speech on HMAS Canberra’s flight deck.
“Thank you for the opportunity to be part of our fleet together.
“It has been an honour to be the fleet commander.”
