Congratulations to Leading Cadet Tharane Thamodarar and Leading Cadet Michael Strumpher for receiving the Bronze Level badge and certificate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
Of note, Leading Cadet Thamodarar counted her aviation studies and flying training towards the Skills component of her Award, and is now very close to qualifying as a solo glider pilot.
Badges and Certificates were presented by No 6 Wing Duke of Edinburgh International Award Coordinator, FLTLT(AAFC) Rae Nicholas.
That’s a total of eight completions/awards for 604 Squadron in the past five months!
Pilot Officer (AAFC) Paul Rosenzweig, the Squadron Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Coordinator for 604 Squadron, said, “This is a great achievement for these cadets through their own personal endeavours, earning a badge they can wear with pride on the AAFC uniform”.
“Air Force Cadets are permitted to wear their Award badge on the Service Dress shirt or Utility Jacket above the right breast pocket,” he said
Meanwhile at 605 (City of Onkaparinga) Squadron at Lonsdale, the incoming Commanding Officer Flying Officer (AAFC) Simon Blair had the privilege of promoting several cadets to acting NCO ranks.
In consultation with the senior cadets and staff, candidates for promotion to acting rank were identified to fill critical vacancies in the unit hierarchy.
Congratulations to Cadet Corporal Oran Levy, promoted to Acting Cadet Sergeant, and Leading Cadets Sean Fry and Ktarna Lewis, promoted to Acting Cadet Corporals.
Acting Cadet Corporal Sean Fry is the grandson of the late Flying Officer Mark Lewis Fry, who served in Bomber Command during WW2 as an Air Gunner with No 149 (East India) Squadron RAF. He had the privilege recently of mounting duty in a catafalque party in Adelaide for the Bomber Command 75th Anniversary Commemorative Service.
Parents of these cadets were invited to attend, and were given the opportunity to place the new rank slides on the shoulders of their cadet.
FLGOFF (AAFC) Blair said, “None of the cadets being promoted had any idea this was occurring so were quite surprised when their names were called out on parade”.
Congratulations to all!
