HMAS Perth set for Remembrance Day homecoming

HMAS Perth will return to her namesake city tomorrow after spending six months deployed on (non Operation Manitou) maritime security operations in the Middle East.

Friends and family will welcome home the ship’s company of 191 tomorrow, Remembrance Day, about noon.

During her mission, Perth provided maritime support to international efforts to counter and deter terrorism and the trade of narcotics on the seas in the Middle East Region.

The Anzac-class frigate left Rockingham on 7 June and has since patrolled more than 25,000 nautical miles as part of the multi-national Combined Maritime Forces, helping to keep trade routes safe for legitimate mariners.

This was Perth’s first deployment and the 63rd rotation of an Australian Fleet Unit to the region since the first Gulf War in 1990.

HMAS Perth will be replaced by HMAS Arunta, which is still in Perth and will not leave until Sunday, 13 November.

This is the first time we are aware of that the Australian ships didn’t hand over/take over duty on station in the Middle East.
