NZ Military Working Dogs cleared to dis-em-BARK

A group of Royal New Zealand Air Force Military Working Dogs and their New Zealand Police counterparts undertook helicopter familiarisation training at RNZAF Base Auckland on Friday.

MWD Coordinator Sergeant Jeremy Drummond said it was a great chance to give the dogs and their handlers refresher training.

“It prepares the dogs to be airlifted into difficult terrain, and ensures that they would not be unduly stressed by the situation”, Sergeant Drummond said.

After a pre-flight safety brief, each team was winched aboard the RNZAF NH90 Medium Utility Helicopter from No 3 Squadron, and then winched off again.

Working dogs are used by NZ Police and the New Zealand Defence Force for various tasks such as search and rescue, tracking and force protection..
