Australia to send more military aid to Ukraine

The Australian government will provide an additional AU$100million for military assistance to Ukraine, including 20 more Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles and 14 M113AS4 armoured personnel carriers.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made the announcement during a visit to Ukraine last weekend.

This new package will deliver important capabilities to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and takes Australia’s total military assistance to the government of Ukraine to more than AU$385million.

Defence Minister Richard Marles said this latest commitment would provide the government of Ukraine with valuable tools to aid their continuing resistance against Russia’s unwarranted aggression.

“Australia will also contribute AU$20million to NATO’s Ukraine Comprehensive Assistance Package Trust Fund, in addition to the AU$4.2million Defence contributed immediately following Russia’s invasion,” Mr Marles said.

“The fund is a mature, efficient and safe mechanism to provide non-lethal support to Ukraine, including medical supplies and fuel.

“Australia is proud to contribute to NATO’s Ukraine Comprehensive Assistance Package Trust Fund alongside our international partners.”

Mr Marles said the Albanese Government was committed to supporting the brave people of Ukraine and the defence of their homeland.

Beyond providing a significant number of military vehicles, Australia will also give de-mining equipment and a further $7million for the purchase of much-needed defence technology and equipment from Australian suppliers.

This increase in pledged support sees the total number of Bushmasters gifted rise to 60 and M113AS4 armoured personnel carriers increase to 28.

The de-mining equipment will help Ukraine remove some of the dangerous remnants of war littering the countryside.

Bushmasters have become synonymous with Australia’s support to Ukraine, especially given President Zelenskyy’s specific request to the Australian Parliament on 31 March 2022.

There is a special irony that we send the vehicles in a Russian-made transporter.

I often wonder who the commentators on these pages are? Certainly not armoured corps or maybe even soldiers. The 113s were only updated about 10 years ago. They have armour, updated power pack and running gear along with remote controlled .50. Same with Bushmaster which never lost a man killed in the afghan. Not the latest or greatest by any means but many Uki soldiers (inc. all reservists) are going into front line areas with their personal cars!! I know what I’d rather be riding in… Last point: the Russians are using 1970s-80 old shit that’s been in storage for years and the operators are 12 month conscripts.
    Give me a break – we’re helping.

Like everyone I have my own views, but I must correct lies and inaccurate statements.

The Russian Federation has NOT deployed conscripts to the Ukrainian S.M.O.
All Russian servicemen deployed to the S.M.O. are ‘contract’ Soldiers.
That is, they are NOT conscripts with 12 months service, but Soldiers who have extended their enlistment.
It requires 10 seconds original thought to discover that on 7/6/2022 Russia has prosecuted around a dozen army officers after hundreds of conscripts were sent to fight in Ukraine.
That’s how much Russia uses conscripts in the S.M.O. Nada.

Secondly. Russia IS using older tanks, where suitable.
They are running T 72’s and T 80’s in the Donbass front, that makes sense.
Though older T 62’s are not suited against modern A.F.V.’s, (and never used for such), they are bloody magic for fire/comms/command platforms at countless check points and locations in the rear.
What a good use of older equipment!

Finally. What gall it would take for ANY R.A.A.C. Turret Head to opine on Modern Warfare.
The Original Australian Army protected Species. ”Never to be Exported or Shot at”
The shame of a whole fleet of Leopards that never got past the Firing Range and rusted away in Peace.
An entire Tank Regiment playing computer games their entire career and never a shot in anger, ever.
Perhaps why, they don’t understand that August in traditionally the month for Tank Campaigning in Ukraine, and
we may see T 90’s and T 14’s racing West very soon.

I thank the Editor for going beyond just rehashing A.D.F. Press Releases, and allowing real Service people to discuss the real World.

      Neutrality for Australia!

      DUTY FIRST.

QUOTE. but if you have nothing else?? END QUOTE.

      How about Surrender?
If it was good enough for the Australian 8th Division, why not the poor, bloody Uki’s?

It seems Australia has now allied with the Russian Federation!
Sending these 20th Century Death Traps only hurries the Death and Injury of Uki Soldiers and forced Conscripts.

The buckets barely survived killing Rice farmers 60 years ago in Vietnam, they have NO chance against a REAL Army.
The Bushmasters are slow moving Missile Magnets regularly wrecked by Goat herders in Afghan, and the photos from Ukraine show they have ZERO protection in a real War.

The A.D.F. is killing fellow Soldiers for Brownie Points with the Yanks, and their Blood is on all our hands.

If the P.LA. is only 80% good as the Russians, we will be right, royally f*cked if we go up against them under US orders.
Neutrality is Australia’s ONLY hope to survive beyond the imminent US collapse.

    DUTY FIRST.

Editor – with us now gifting many Bushmasters perhaps a story is due on current manufacturing of these vehicles – are we still making them?

There is youtube footage of a couple of wrecked bushmasters on the side of a road which was posted soon after our first lot were sent over. No markings, but as far as i know we are the only country to send bushmasters?
