The Last Post echoed across the base as hundreds of personnel and their families came to pay their respects to those who have served or are currently serving.

Commander of the 7th Brigade, Brigadier Michael Say, said it was important to gather to remember the fallen and reflect on what it meant to wear the uniform.

“It also provides an opportunity to connect and give back to our community that supports us,” Brigadier Say said.

“Marching in the Brisbane City Anzac Day parade is our way of saying thank you to the community for their continued support.”

Brigadier Say led the formed body through the Brisbane streets as a huge crowd cheered on, despite the rain.

Members from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) demonstrated the closeness of the Pacific family as they marched alongside their Australian colleagues to great applause.

“It was great to see such a large number of people in attendance,” Brigadier Say said.

“It’s also fantastic to be here with our Fijian colleagues, the other services and those who have previously served or maintain a connection to service.”

RFMF Captain Ana Vuniwaqa, who led the Fijian soldiers, said it was amazing to be part of such a moving day.

“We marched with our Australian colleagues to demonstrate the strengthening of our Vuvale [meaning family] Partnership while honouring the service and sacrifice of those who have served in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

“We wear different uniforms, however, we are still apart of the same Pacific Vuvale.”
