The latest RAS proves the auxiliary oiler’s readiness to provide similar support to other navies in the region.
Anzac and Sirius left their home port in Western Australia on March 4 as a joint task group for a two-month deployment throughout the north-east Indian Ocean and South-East Asia.
Commanding Officer Sirius Commander Chris Doherty said the successful RAS with Anzac was an excellent opportunity for Sirius to demonstrate her ability to sustain ships from other navies during her deployment.
“Team Sirius thoroughly enjoys the opportunity to support other vessels through replenishments at sea. As our ship’s motto says, we are ‘always ready to serve and provide’,” Commander Doherty said.
Commanding Officer Anzac and Commander of the Australia Task Group Commander Brendan Horn said the task group would conduct a number of international engagements on this deployment, including more replenishments at sea with partner navies.
“With the RAS in the South China Sea, we’ve tested all of our processes and are confident they’re working well,” Commander Horn said.
“The next step will be to conduct a RAS with our international partners, including during Exercise La Perouse.”
