With a good manufacturing reputation in the automotive industry, Minecorp will support Rheinmetall’s project bid with local component manufacture for the Lynx fleet.
Minecorp’s in-house engineering team is working to assist Lynx assembly with a range of critical brackets and vehicle components as Rheinmetall prepares for the risk mitigation activity (RMA) trials.
Project LAND 400 Phase 3 is valued at between $18.1billion to $27.1billion.
Minecorp has years of experience in the mining, utilities, government and healthcare industries and is seeking to diversify its income streams by including Defence.
Minecorp is a privately-owned company that manufactures and distributes products globally.
General Manager Angus McIntyre said joining Team Lynx was an important step for the company.
“To be part of an extensive local supplier base here in Queensland proves that production in Australia is still strong, and we intend to continue building our expertise in this area,” Mr McIntyre said.
“Supporting sovereign capability is a key deliverable for our business.”
Rheinmetall has delivered three Lynx vehicles to compete in Defence’s risk-mitigation trials, which officially kicked off in November 2020.
The extensive testing regime, considered world leading, will put vehicles through a range of trials including lethality, mobility and blast tests.
If successful, the bulk of the Lynx fleet will be manufactured in Queensland at Rheinmetall’s new Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence at Redbank south-west of Brisbane.
Mr McIntyre said Minecorp had worked hard over the past five years to learn and understand the nature of the Defence sector and adapt to the specific requirements.
“We very much look forward to strengthening our partnership with Rheinmetall and extending our support with the Lynx KF41 program into the future.”
