The sailor tested positive for COVID-19 on 30 March and was removed from the ship and placed in an isolation house on Naval Base Guam with four other USS Theodore Roosevelt sailors.

He received medical checks twice daily from Navy medical teams.

At approximately 8.30am last Thursday, the sailor was found unresponsive during a daily medical check.

CPR was administered by fellow sailors and the onsite-medical team in the house before the sailor was transferred to hospital and placed in ICU.

The Sailor was officially pronounced dead on 13 April.

USS Theodore Roosevelt arrived in Guam March 27 for officials say was a scheduled port visit for resupply and crew rest – but followed a controversial leaked plea from the ship’s captain for desperate COVID-19-related support.

The controversy saw the captain sacked and the acting Secretary of the Navy who sacked him later resign after botching his response.
