INVICTUS GAMES – COMBAT Camera issue 17

I have very great pleasure in presenting below, Issue 17 of COMBAT Camera, a bumper 100-page magazine dedicated to my personal coverage of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 – an inspirational and potentially life-changing event.

I must say I am quite proud of the fact I produced what I hope you will agree is a pretty special magazine just one week after the games ended.

Buy hardcover coffee-table book, here

Not only that – I have also converted the same coverage (with a few extra photos and stories) as a print-on-demand hardcover coffee table book – which is also now ready for purchase, with free customisable cover-photo upgrade ——>

Anyway, please enjoy this special issue of COMBAT Camera

Feel free to share this with everyone everywhere.

You can also download (and print) a high-res .pdf version of this mag here.
(be warned, however, it is about 50 megabytes).

Awesome! I will look into purchasing your copy covering the Aussies. I attended the Invictus Games Athletics and went to the Sydney Closing Ceremony at the Olympic Stadium with my 10 year old Grandson. We loved it. I’ve also ordered a couple of copies of the Invictus Games book from the organisers and received email from them today that it’s in final stages.

I served at the Invictus Games as part of the military supporting task force. While I love the effort you have made, I would like to see a second issue celebrating the Invictus Games, featuring the 17 other nations who were there. There were countless stories to share and celebrate, rather than the focussing solely on the Australian team. With the spirit of the games being about inclusiveness, it feels slightly out of place to have an Invictus Games special edition and feature only the Australian competitors and for the most part telling only their story.

      Hi Graeme,
That was always going to be a criticism – and I fully accept it.
However, as a one-man band, I had to make a decision from the outset what to concentrate on – photography or story telling (I chose photography), Aussies or everyone (I chose Aussies) – and, having chosen Aussies, do I concentrate on one sport or a few individuals or try to cover as much Aussie action across all sports as I could? Obviously, I went with the latter.
Of course, there were plenty of others covering the games too, and they would have got other perspectives, with another focus. You just have to seek them out. Invictus Games organisers are actually producing their own 190-page photo book. That will obviously have a wide-ranging focus. The ADF also had at least four photographers and a newspaper reporter on site all week (that said, though, I’m actually very disappointed at the volume of Invictus coverage on the Defence web site – far less product that I know was produced by five very hard-working NCOs).
As for me, I did the best I could. There’s only so much one man can cover. I don’t mean that to sound defensive though. I do accept your feedback. It was a worry I had from the start, but I couldn’t avoid it without spreading myself too thin.
Also, a second issue might not be out of the question. But if I did that, it would simply be my edit of other people’s photography. I’m not sure there’s merit in that, when all that photography is ‘out there’. But, if there is sufficient demand, I will consider it. Let’s see how this one does first.
