Young Endeavour replacement delayed – without explanation

Almost six years ago, the then government announced that Sail Training Ship Endeavour would be replaced by the end of 2023.

Now two years ‘late’ on that delivery, CONTACT asked Defence for a progress report.

We gave them three weeks to compile their response which they delivered today – three weeks late on our generous deadline.

The following is Defence’s comprehensive progress report on a taxpayer-funded ship-building project that is currently at least two years late on the only proclaimed delivery date…

“In March 2022, Defence signed a contract with Birdon for the design and build of the replacement Sail Training Ship to support the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme under project SEA 1788, the Young Endeavour Replacement Project. Construction is underway in Port Macquarie, NSW.”

That’s it. Six weeks (and three weeks late) to receive what I could have found on Google in under six minutes.

And still no revision on launch/delivery/commissioning timelines.
