$2.2billion Collins-class sustainment contract awarded

The government has signed a new four-year sustainment contract with ASC Pty Ltd for the sustainment of the Collins-class submarines.

This new contract is valued at over $2.2 billion.

Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy said this was part of a $4 to $5 billion commitment to keeping the Collins-class submarines as a potent strike and deterrence capability.

“Significantly, this contract follows the recently announced life-of-type extension (LOTE) program for the Collins-class submarines, which will commence with HMAS Farncomb in 2026 at Osborne, South Australia,” Mr Conroy said.

In a statement that fully focused on jobs and sovereign industry – and little if any on actual submarine capability and the why’s and wherefores of what this spend will do for same – Mr Conroy went on at length about how great the Albanese Government was at supporting that more important aspect of this contract, as if we hadn’t already heard the same old lines a thousand times before – so CONTACT will not bore you by repeating them.
