Fox hunting in Ireland

I just assumed fox hunting had been consigned to the history books.

So, when I heard my sister-in-law’s pub was hosting a fox hunt, I passed up a trip to Dublin (i.e. the Guinness brewery) to witness this ‘rare event’.

And, while it was a very special day, with beautiful people dressed in all the traditional fox-hunting finery atop equally beautiful horses – it turns out it isn’t a rare even at all.

Fox hunting in Ireland (and even in England, I since learned) is alive a well and, in County Clare, occurs twice a week!
