Powered by Defence’s Maritime Acquisition and Sustainment Team in conjunction with StriveStronger, the half-day masterclass, titled ‘The Integrated Mindset – A Social Mastery Journey’, delivered fundamental concepts of social mastery through discussion around self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management.

The aim of the masterclass was to challenge participants to analyse their thinking through a self-development lens.

The class was led by a mental skills coach and CEO of StriveStronger Andrew May, who spoke alongside monk-turned-venture capitalist Kamal Sarma and former captain of the Australian Diamonds netball team Caitlin Bassett.

The three encouraged Defence staff to build on their skills in effective communication, conflict management and resilience in the face of pressure.

Head of Stream Maritime Acquisition and Sustainment Rear Admiral Wendy Malcolm said this professional development opportunity allowed Defence’s people to give back to their teams and invest in them as individuals.

“People are our most important asset, and empowering Defence personnel to improve their emotional and social wellbeing is an investment which benefits our capability and achieves high performance,” Rear Admiral Malcolm said.

Investment in social mastery aligns with recommendations outlined in the Defence Strategic Review, recognising workforce as a key priority for Defence.

“We are committed to the growth and retention of a highly-skilled Defence workforce capable of meeting Australia’s national security needs,” Rear Admiral Malcolm said.

“This masterclass helps provide our people with the tools and strategies required to continually improve across all aspects of their lives.”

Personnel can now register for the next instalment of the “Integrated Mindset – A Social Mastery Journey” being held at ADFA September 21.
