Held in Wide Bay Training Area recently, the exercise had sections working together to conduct quick and deliberate attacks, obstacle crossings and ambush drills in challenging terrain.
The exercise concluded with a long-range marksmanship live-fire activity to improve individual skills on the EF88.
Officer Commanding B Company, 9RQR, Major Garry Collins said reservists often juggled work and family around Army training, “so to give them the opportunity to enhance skills at platoon-level and progress to a live-fire activity later in the year is important”.
For Private Robert Allison, Exercise Robey was his first activity since becoming qualified.
“The four-day exercise allowed me to get feedback and make improvements to my infantry skills in the same training.
“It was great for my learning,” he said.
Sergeant Leon Hart enjoyed testing his skills with long-range marksmanship.
“I’ve never shot at that distance so it was definitely worthwhile for me, and I’ve been in 25 years,” he said.
The rivalry between Alpha, Bravo and Delta companies of 9RQR continues, with members looking forward to extending their training and capability with a large-scale live-fire activity later in the year.
