Australian soldiers train Ukrainians in urban operations

Under the instruction of Australian Army personnel deployed on Operation Kudu, Armed Forces of Ukraine recruits are now more lethal in operation, survival, occupation and denial in urban environments.

Having completed their exercise on urban operations, the trainees have worked as a team to breach buildings, identify improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and move and fight in built-up areas.

Having arrived the United Kingdom in January 2023, a contingent of up to 70 ADF personnel have joined partner nations in the UK-led and -based training programme for Ukrainian recruits.

However, no Australian personnel will enter Ukraine as part of this programme.

Defence says Australia continues to stand with the people of Ukraine, and is providing ongoing support in response to Russia’s continuing violation of international law.
