THE TRAIN

THERE’S A PASSAGE IN THE BIBLE, I TRUELY DO BELIEVE
A TIME TO LOVE, A TIME TO LAUGH AND A TIME TO GRIEVE
HOW CAN A POET’S WORDS EXPRESS, THE SORROW THAT I FEEL
FOR GRIEF MAY RIDE A PASSING BREEZE AND SOME WOUNDS NEVER HEAL

NO ONE CARED WHERE WE SERVED, OR WHAT WE HAD ACHIEVED
SO MANY MADE COMMITMENTS, SO MANY WERE DECEIVED
SOLDIERS, SAILORS, AIRMEN, WE WERE A MOTLEY CREW
LITTLE DID WE REALISE, THE NIGHTMARES WE’D GO THROUGH

PHYSICIANS MAY EASE THE PAIN, FOR THOSE WHO’VE PAID THE PRICE
BUT THE GREATEST GIFTS YOU CAN RECEIVE, ARE EMPATHY AND ADVICE
FOR THEY RALLY WHEN MOST NEEDED AND HELP TO EASE THE LOAD
DRAWING ON EXPERIENCE, CAUSE THE’VE BEEN DOWN THAT ROAD

THERE ARE NAMES UPON AN HONOUR ROLL, CARVED INTO MY HEART
SUNSET SINGERS A REMINDER, OF THE YEARS WE’LL SPEND APART
ALL I HAVE ARE MEMORIES, OF THE SOLACE WE ALL SHARED
FOR IN THAT TIME OF CRISIS, YOU WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO CARED

THEY SAY “OLD SOLDIERS NEVER DIE”, THOUGH THEY MAY FADE FROM SIGHT
SOME THEY CALLED THEM HEROES, OTHERS, JUST A BLIGHT
FOR THE TIDES OF LIFE ARE EBBING, FROM THE DECADES WE HAVE KNOWN
YOUR TRAIN HAS LEFT OUR STATION, NOW WE ARE LEFT ALONE
