New Zealand soldier killed in Ukraine
New Zealand Defence Force today issued a statement saying that a New Zealand Army soldier may have been killed in Ukraine.
“We have received reports that a soldier – who was on leave – has been killed in Ukraine,” the official NZDF statement said.
“The soldier was on a period of leave without pay at the time and was not on active duty with the NZDF.
“At this early stage, there is still more information to be gathered in order to understand the circumstances fully.
“The New Zealand Army will work closely with the family of the soldier to offer support at this deeply sad time.
“NZDF is currently consolidating information and will look to release further information when possible.”
New Zealand has deployed multiple military contingents to the UK to train Ukrainian soldiers (artillery and infantry) and to assist with the logistics of supplying weapons and aid to Ukraine, but has officially not allowed military members to cross into Ukrainian territory.
