An Adrenaline Rush

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT

When hit by a high velocity bullet,
The skull explodes and its contents spray
Through shattered bone to fall
Inert and wetly glistening by the way.
Seen through the rear aperture of one’s rifle
And occasioned by just one neat, single shot,
(not the usual three to five)
The sight engenders mild satisfaction.
Only later is it felt – that savage exultation,
The fierce, eternal triumph
At one’s proven right to be alive.
