Former ADF members and their adult child/ren are sought for participation in a research study that aims to investigate the impact of parental (ex-serving ADF Veteran) deployment vs non-deployment to conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan on the social and emotional wellbeing of adult children in military families.

Prior to commencing the study, former ADF members are invited to discuss the study with their adult child/ren and if the adult child/ren would like to participate in this research. Former ADF members whose child/ren do not wish to participate in the study are also invited to partake in this research individually.
Former ADF member Inclusion Criteria:
- ADF ex-serving personnel
- Served in the ADF (deployed or non-deployed) during any of the periods of: First Gulf War 1990-91; Second Gulf War 2003-11; Afghanistan (2001-2021), and in any branch of the ADF
- Has at least one child aged 18 years or over
Former ADF member Exclusion criteria:
- Current serving personnel in the ADF
- Did not serve in the ADF (deployed or non-deployed) during any of the periods of: First Gulf War 1990-91; Second Gulf War 2003-11; Afghanistan (2001-2021)
- Does not have at least one adult child aged 18 years or over
Participants will be invited to completed an online questionnaire, which is estimated to take 15 to 20 minutes.
At completion of questionnaire, participants will be asked if their adult child/ren wish to participate in this study. Adult children participation includes an online questionnaire (estimated to take 25 minutes to complete), and an invitation to participate in a 60 to 90-minute interview with the Principal Investigator (adult children participants do not have to participate in the interview to complete the questionnaire).
Adult child Inclusion Criteria:
- Aged ≥18
- Adult child of ex-serving personnel of the ADF who is also participating in this research study.
- Parent served in the ADF (deployed or non-deployed) during any of the periods of: First Gulf War 1990-91; Second Gulf War 2003-11; Afghanistan (2001-2021), and in any branch of the ADF
- All sexes and genders
Adult child Exclusion Criteria:
- Aged under 18
- Current serving personnel in the ADF (any branch, including the Reserves)
- Is not an adult child of ex-serving personnel in the ADF who is also participating in this research study
- Does not have a parent who served in the ADF (deployed or non-deployed) during any of the periods of: First Gulf War 1990-91; Second Gulf War 2003-11; Afghanistan (2001-2021)
