Happy Father’s Day Sergeant Bert
WWII veteran and proud father Sergeant Bert Le-Merton was accompanied by his son Trent on Fathers’ Day as he continued his March On Challenge to raise money for veterans and their families.
Sergeant Bert is Australia’s own walkathon legend – almost half-way through a 96km Kokoda Track-length fundraising walk – and more than five times beyond his initial dollar goal.
PLEASE SUPPORT SERGEANT BERT ON HIS LONG MARCH
After leading men in battle in both north Africa and the Western Pacific, Sergeant Bert is again leading by example as Patron of Soldier On’s March On campaign.
March On is Soldier On’s new and most significant annual fundraising initiative, designed to raise much-needed funds to provide vital support services to enable modern-day veterans and their families to thrive.
While comparisons will undoubtedly be made to the UK’s Captain Tom, Sergeant Bert is our very own, fair-dinkum walking legend, aiming to clock up 1000m a day – no mean feat for a 101-year-old.
“If I can do it, you can too – so get up off your saddle and March On with me to support our veterans,” Sergeant Bert commanded in a video interview to be aired in coming days.
And who are we to shirk?
Seriously though, this man deserves our support – as does Soldier On.
