Join me for a special ANZAC Day Dawn Service
The Wounded Heroes defence charity has brought forward its major fundraiser – Exercise Stone Pillow 2020 – to cope with a major call on its services in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wounded Heroes CEO Martin Shaw said the charity had experienced an unprecedented call rate on its funds in the past three weeks, especially around homeless veterans and crisis funds for veterans and their families.
“Our charitable outgoings are up more than 250% in the past three weeks,” Mr Shaw said.
“In light of this, we have brought forward Exercise Stone Pillow in the form of a Backyard Sleep-out, which had been planned for October.
“Exercise Stone Pillow 2020 will now be held on ANZAC Eve, 24 April.
“We really must try to raise funds as a safety-net for veterans and their families in financial crisis, homeless or at risk of homelessness.
“And what better way to do that – and greet the ANZAC Day dawn in your own back yard.”
To participate, all Australians are encouraged to register for Exercise Stone Pillow, HERE.
EDITOR’S PARTICIPATION:
CONTACT is 100% on board with this initiative.
Since we can’t go to a Dawn Service this year, what better way to ‘do’ our own ANZAC Day Dawn Service by sleeping outside, waking up with the dawn, reflecting on the service and sacrifice of our fallen heroes – AND doing something tangible and real for those who did come home but are doing it tough, especially this year.
I will sleep on my front lawn – because our back yard is crap 😉 and because it faces north-east, perfectly situated to greet the dawn.
I call on all CONTACT fans to join me – not on my lawn – but on yours.
I’ll take some photos and post them and I’ll invite you to share yours.
Register here to participate – and comment YES below if you’ll do this with me.

Great job, count me in too!
Excellent Narelle. Make sure you get a photo or two to send me.
I’m in and I’m sure that I can rally some more willing participants.
Regards
MAJ Darryl Kelly OAM
Awesome Darryl. Make sure you send me a photo.
Yes, I will be with you, bought two tickets
Well done John. Make sure you keep social distance 🙂
Send me a photo too.
Ned I would do the same mate, but don’t have any webbing left. Plus I can’t sleep on ground anymore, due to my injuries. But mate, I will thinking of you.
Sounds like an amazing idea, would love to participate and do what I can. I would appreciate some more information on how to make the effort worthwhile.
Barrie
Hi Barrie. If you sign up for the $20 entry fee, that will make it very worthwhile for Wounded Warriors.
And send me a photo of you in your sleep-out rig so I can add it to others here on the CONTACT page. That’ll make it worthwhile as a CONTACT-community event.
