Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds said Australia gratefully accepted Japan’s offer to support Australia’s bushfire response.
“Japan’s offer of support is deeply appreciated by the Australian people and demonstrates the strength of the friendship between Australia and Japan,” Minister Reynolds said.
“The Japan Self-Defense Force aircraft will transport military and civilian personnel involved with firefighting, as well as equipment required for recovery efforts.
“As bushfires continue to impact vast areas of Australia, the Australian Defence Force has made a significant contribution to support the bushfire response and recovery effort.
The aircraft will be based at Royal Australian Air Force Base Richmond in western Sydney, New South Wales.
