Following the success of the inaugural Veteran Career Expo in Sydney in October, CONTACT advertiser WithYouWithMe are hoping a similar event planned for February in Brisbane will be an even bigger success.
The inaugural event in Sydney on 4 October this year exceeded the expectations of organisers with more than 180 actual job opportunities offered to Australian military veterans after 322 speed interviews were conducted at the event – with 80% of veterans receiving call-backs.
Organised by veteran employment advocate WithYouWithMe, the Veteran Career Expos are free to attend for veterans – or soon-to-be veterans – seeking to find their way in the daunting civilian jobs marketplace.
WithYouWithMe CEO Tom Moore said his staff thought they were dreaming big for this first event, but the response from both the veteran community and industry was almost overwhelming.
“We always knew how skilled, competent and motivated our separating military veterans are and everyone knows that smart businesses want to hire the best people – so it was obvious to us that the two sides needed to be brought together some how,” .
“So, after the runaway success in Sydney, we are bracing for a huge event in Brisbane in the new year.”
The inaugural Veteran Career Expo in the Sydney CBD was designed around keynote-speaker sessions, ‘speed interviews’ and opportunities for veterans and employers to mingle and ask/answer questions.
The Brisbane event will emulate that successful formula, with just a few minor adjustments.
With the actual date in February 2018 yet to be finalised, registrations for the Brisbane Veteran Career Expo are now open – here.
Mr Moore said that while the company was not expected to finalise and announce the actual day/date until next week, he couldn’t wait to announce that registrations were already open.
