Soldier killed at Mt Bundey named
The Australian Defence Force has released the name of the soldier killed during a training activity at Mount Bundey Training Area near Darwin yesterday.
Private Jason Walter Challis died as a result of injuries sustained during a live-fire training activity and is believed to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head (though this has not been officially confirmed).
CONTACT believes that Private Challis was a member of 5RAR (though, again, this has not been officially released).
Defence also released the following statement on behalf of Jason’s family.
Our beautiful boy has gone.
His cheekiness and loving ways will stay with us forever.
His personality pleased and brought so many people together. Everyone he met loved him and fell in love with him.
Jason was the best son, step-son, brother and mate you could ever ask for.
Rest in peace, our darling Jason, we love you forever. Until we meet again.
Defence also requested that the media respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.
