The soldier was an occupant in an M113 armoured personnel carrier when it is believed he was struck by a tree branch.
The soldier received immediate first aid from his colleagues at the scene.
Queensland Ambulance Service also attended the scene, but the soldier was subsequently pronounced deceased.
Next of kin have been notified and are being supported by the Army.
No other occupants of the vehicle were injured.
A Defence spokesman said the Army and broader ADF community extended its deepest sympathies to the soldier’s family and friends.
“Defence will not be releasing any further information relating to the member’s personal or service history at this time,” the spokesman said.
“Defence requests media respect his family’s privacy at this very difficult time.”
The soldier’s unit was participating in a routine training exercise.
Queensland Police are investigating the accident and are expected to prepare a report for the coroner.
The ADF are assisting police with their inquiries.
