WHAT: Two F/A-18F Super Hornets from Number 6 Squadron, RAAF Base Amberley, will conduct a Riverfire practice flight on Friday ahead of the big show on Saturday.
WHERE: Brisbane CBD and over Southbank reach of the Brisbane River
WHEN: Friday, 25 September, between 12 – 12.20 pm
Background: Up-to two F/A-18F Super Hornets from No.6 Squadron, RAAF Base Amberley, will present flypasts at this year’s Riverfire celebrations on Saturday 26 September.
The Super Hornets will rehearse their exciting display this Friday, between 12-12.20 pm.
Throughout the flypast, the Super Hornets will travel at speeds of up to 1000 kph (550 knots) and fly at or above 228 meters (750 ft) over the CBD and built up areas and not below 76 meters (250 ft) over the Brisbane River.
They will firstly fly over the Brisbane CBD, continue up the arms of the Brisbane River and back over north and south of the CBD before returning to RAAF Base Amberley.
Brisbane residents and CBD workers should not be alarmed to see the distinctive military fast jets flying low through the city
ON SATURDAY:
- 5.15pm – RAAF C17 Globemaster
- 5.30pm – RAAF F/A-18F Super Hornets
- 5.50pm – Army MRH90 and Tiger helicopters
- 7.03pm – RAAF F/A-18F Super Hornets
The fireworks display is scheduled to run between 7pm and 7.25pm, with the final passes by the F/A18F Super Hornets marking the start of the display.
