Yesterday morning saw an added level of excitement at the daily Guard Change at Horse Guards Parade as soldiers in the Blues and Royals prepared to go off duty.
The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment boasts more than its fair share of rugby fanatics and two in particular were counting the minutes to last night’s opening match between England and Fiji.
Lance Corporal Oliver Kelly, 25, from Luton Town, and Corporal of Horse Mitieli Camaibau, 33, from Fiji, both play rugby for the regiment and reserved front-row seats in the mess at Hyde Park Barracks for the big game.
In the end, it was the Englishman who went home happiest as England bested Fiji 35-11.
